Ice Management, Planning, Tools & Systems
C‑CORE works to continuously improve and quantify ice management capabilities. Our comprehensive approach, driven by offshore oil and gas development, addresses the challenges presented by both icebergs and sea ice, and provides continuous improvements in detection, physical management (e.g. towing), operational implementation and assessment.
Improvements in detection include a semi-automated satellite surveillance capability for ship and iceberg detection with up to 95% accuracy, ongoing performance analysis of available sensors and a framework for integrating all available data to provide the most up-to-date and accurate wide-area picture.

Physical management advances include revised towing protocols, a computer package to aid towing decisions and a practical, stowable net to improve towing. Improvements in ice management are quantified and implemented to demonstrably reduce downtime and infrastructure risk.
